CHANEL - Métiers De MANChester

That’s right - CHANEL of Rue Cambon [Paris] will become CHANEL of Northern Quarter [Manchester] this December, as they bring their prestigious annual Métiers d’Art to the north of England.

For those that aren’t familiar, the annual event celebrates the smaller and more specialist workshops which Chanel have acquired to ensure the craftsmanship, which is integral to French luxury, continues within the House. The show and collection brings artisans together from flower makers to hatters, glove makers to embroiders. Previously hosted in cities such as Shanghai, and at Chateau’s within the Loire Valley in France, an event such as this in Manchester from a luxury fashion house will be a first.

So why Manchester?

Chanel believe it is ‘one of the most effervescent cities of pop culture’ and hence have chosen the city to host this year’s show. See the full announcement below from Chanel.com:

“CREATIVE DIALOGUE IS AT THE HEART OF EVERY CHANEL MÉTIERS D’ART COLLECTION. IT LIES WITHIN THE WORK BETWEEN ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE FASHION COLLECTIONS VIRGINIE VIARD, THE ATELIERS AT RUE CAMBON, THE MAISONS D’ART AT le19M, AND CONNECTS ARTISTS AND FRIENDS OF THE HOUSE, CITIES AND CULTURES, SEASON AFTER SEASON. CHANEL HAS CHOSEN TO PRESENT THE 2023/24 MÉTIERS D’ART SHOW IN MANCHESTER, ONE OF THE MOST EFFERVESCENT CITIES OF POP CULTURE AND AN AVANT-GARDE ONE, WHOSE BANDS, SPANNING ALL GENRES, HAVE CHANGED THE HISTORY OF MUSIC.”

The infrastructure for the event is currently being assembled along Thomas Street in the Northern Quarter, and will be covered by the accompanying event promotional material, which will heavily feature the show poster designed by famous Manchester designer Peter Saville. Notably, Sofia Coppola is also responsible for directing the trailer and montage material for the event, which is soundtracked by the [of course] Mancunian band New Order.
