Best northern hotels for a luxury long weekend

As we get closer to the Christmas break, there’s no better time to think about planning a luxury long weekend. Whether its a last-minute gift for close family and friends [how generous of you], or a treat for yourself to look forward to in the New Year, its not just the likes of Paris or Vienna which can provide the perfect spot for a special weekend. We’ve picked three hotels which show the North has plenty to offer for a luxury getaway.

01: THE CITY BREAK

KING ST TOWNHOUSE, MANCHESTER

King Street Townhouse, simply put, provides luxury in the heart of the city. With a range of beautifully furnished rooms to choose from, the Townhouse is exactly what you need as your home away from home on a city break. If you’re feeling particularly opulent, there are also the one bedroom and junior deluxe suites to select for your stay for that extra special weekend. Speaking of special, the infinity pool overlooking Manchester city centre - alongside the hotel’s incredible spa - is what draws many to visit and then stay again. This, plus the fantastic hotel bar which (from personal experience) is as good as any establishment to turn into base camp for the evening, makes the King Street Townhouse the perfect spot for your city break.

02: BOUTIQUE IN THE LAKES

ROTHAY MANOR, AMBLESIDE

Located on the outskirts of Ambleside, one of the Lake District’s most popular destinations to the north of Lake Windermere, Rothay Manor provides the perfect escape for a long weekend in the mountains. Set within its own beautiful grounds, the striking house contains a variety of boutique rooms and suites, all tastefully decorated within spacious surroundings. Activities such as paddleboarding are available to arrange through the hotel, and for those more inclined to enjoy a warmer - and dryer - stay, there are a number of spaces to relax in amongst in addition to the bar and restaurant offering casual and formal dining.

It’s also worth noting that the hotel is (very) dog friendly, which is always a plus!

For those whose long weekend breaks are solely determined by where to have the best food and drink, then there’s few finer locations to escape to. Run by chef Tommy Banks, the Banks family have farmed locally for number of generations and the tasting and lunch menus on offer reflect that locality alongside modern gastronomic dining. The Black Swan also offer two-night stay and dining packages to ensure guests have the time to fully experience the food, drink, rooms and beautiful Yorkshire setting.
